Free Rice

Saturday, December 8th, 2007

For each word you get right they donate 20 grains of rice through the United Nations to help end world hunger. Apparently this site is doing quite a bit for raising literacy rates in American public schools while also contributing to a worthy cause. The program is made possible by advertisers who pay to have their marketing material displayed on the site.

Web Standards Project

As mentioned in our reasons why to choose us we touched briefly on web-standards. This is something I've felt needs a little more explaining, and it's worthwhile taking a read through this article if you are unsure what web standards are, or how they might apply to the design and development of your website.

Attending Green Drinks

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

img_1590.jpgWell I’ve finally made a decision to attend my first ever Green Drinks upcoming on the 11th of December. The green business network meets from 5-8pm down at the Canoe Club in downtown Victoria. My colleague Roger Colwill started the organization, being a passionate man with a very green thumb. Unfortunately Roger passed away this fall while I was away in South America so now I have taken it upon myself to join his network and contribute to the growing number of small businesses here in Victoria that are looking to make a change for the environment.

Home Sweet Home

Monday, November 19th, 2007

Well I have finally returned after a 2 month trip to South America. Graeme and Nathan have done an excellent job of holding the fort! Thanks guys! The trip was great and I've had a lot of opportunity to reflect upon the important things in life like friends and family.

Within a few more days we will be transferring over our existing land line to a new number so stay tuned for that. In the mean time we are reachable as always at (250) 858 9329 or of course by email.

Quick Update

Monday, November 5th, 2007

Just thought I would let everyone know I will be back in the office on November 19th. Graeme and Nathan will continue to run things until then. South America (Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, and Chile) has been a truly eye opening experience. Upon my return things will probably start heating up here at Simple Station with a few new products, and some Open Source applications that we are currently working on.

Travel Update

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

It has been a busy summer here at Simple Station and I have suddenly come to realize that I’ve been working for almost 2 years straight with very little vacation. As a result I’ve finally plucked up the courage and will be heading out from September 10th to November 14th on a bit of an adventure into the depths of South America. This is intended mostly as an R&R vacation but I will be checking in weekly with my staff here at Simple Station to make sure everything is running smoothly. (more...)

Maintenance requests and new work

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

Boston Photo Well it’s an exciting time of the year, and we’ve been very busy working for a large non-profit organization down here in Boston. Both Nathan and Graeme are working steadily from Victoria, and I’m now on site.

I should also take this moment to point out that all inquiries and maintenance requests should be going to Graeme Sheeley (graeme@simplestation.com). He will be more than happy to handle any requests you may have.

Boston is actually considerably warmer than I had really anticipated, and I think I'm just so used to life on the west coast that it’s taking me some time to adjust to the humidity here. All that being said — I am most definitely enjoying the warm weather and the good work.

Microsoft: Bring Back the Love

Thursday, May 17th, 2007

There’s a hilarious video titled “The Breakup” available over at Dailymotion.com that poses the question:

Are you communicating with your customers, or merely advertising to them?

Bring back the love!

Maybe One Day

Monday, May 14th, 2007

I just spotted this advert on Youtube and I thought it would be worthwhile posting to the blog. Car adverts rarely stick out for me, but this one really was quite innovative and classy. Perhaps one day we could all drive to work like this. Introducing the new Nissan Qashqai.
